Kateřina Rohlenová won the Neuron 2023 Prize for research on tumor cell communication
Mgr. Kateřina Rohlenová, Ph.D. from the Institute of Biotechnology of the CAS in the BIOCEV centre is the winner of the Neuron 2023 Award for promising scientists in the field of medicine. On 15 October, the Neuron Foundation for the Promotion of Science awarded the Neuron 2023 Prizes to the best Czech scientists. During the gala evening, seven promising scientific talents received the prestigious awards, with four prizes going to female scientists. This is the highest number of women awarded in the entire history of the awards.
Kateřina Rohlenová is a leading expert in the field of cancer biology. She conducts groundbreaking research on metabolic communication between healthy and cancerous cells. Her project, supported by a prestigious ERC grant, has an ambitious goal: she wants to identify the "Achilles' heels" of cancer cells and thus enable the development of innovative therapeutic approaches. She is now trying to identify new strategies to fight cancer, which has the potential to bring major breakthroughs in the treatment of the disease. At the Institute of Biotechnology of the CAS, she has established the Laboratory of Cell Metabolism.
