Scientists from the First Faculty of Medicine - BIOCEV succeeded in Horizon Europe!

The team led by doc. Milan Jakubek from BIOCEV of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University has succeeded with a project aimed at a new approach to the treatment of selected types of tumours. The project is based on the use of a unique technology of biosynthesized porphyrin derivatives, which form a new generation of multifunctional drugs for cancer therapy.

The scientific group will focus on innovative design, synthesis of compounds and in vivo and in vitro testing. "This is a great achievement for our international multidisciplinary team. 788 projects with 4758 participants from 55 countries applied for the competition itself, while it was expected that around 60 would receive a grant. Our project, whose name can be translated into Czech approximately as Development of innovative proton and neutron therapy with high specificity for cancer by hacking heme biosynthesis, received full points in all criteria in the two-stage evaluation process," explains doc. Milan Jakubek.
