Gustavo Fuertes Vives

The Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences
Junior Researcher and Head of Program “Dynamics of Biological Processes”

Gustavo Fuertes Vives works at the Institute of Biotechnnology CAS, where he focuses on the structural dynamics of photocontrolled DNA-binding proteins, principally EL222.

Gustavo applies integrative structural and chemical biology approaches for tackling outstanding biomolecular systems, like intrinsically disordered proteins, membrane proteins and protein/DNA complexes. Structure-function relationships of proteins are unveiled by the use of multiple molecular biology and biophysical techniques, mainly infrared and fluorescence spectroscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering. In parallel, Dr. Fuertes labels proteins with optical and vibrational probes for the acquisition of site-specific structural and dynamical information.
