Postdoctoral researcher in metabolism

We are a young, international research team that studies metabolism in the context of healthy and tumor tissue, using genetic mouse models, metabolic approaches and omics technologies. Previously we discovered that quiescent endothelial cells re-wire metabolism to maintain stress resistance and found a major role for oxidative phosphorylation and autophagy in this process (Magalhaes-Novais et al, Autophagy, 2022). Now we plan to build on these findings and map the metabolism of quiescent endothelium in more detail, to identify molecular mechanisms of metabolic stress resistance with relevance to disease.

Job description:

You will use genetic mouse models, omics and pooled CRISPR screens to search for metabolic pathways that provide oxidative stress resistance in the endothelium. You will oversee your research project but will also function as a part of a team. You will contribute to supervision of junior colleagues, writing of manuscripts, reports and proposals and will present the project results at (inter-)national meetings.


  • PhD in biology, biomedicine or related areas
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed international journals
  • Experience with endothelial biology, metabolism, gene manipulations, omics techniques or mouse models will be considered as an extra advantage
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork, ability to plan and work independently
  • Good English communication skills, both oral and written are expected

The Institute of Biotechnology (IBT, ) is a top-class multi-disciplinary research center in the Czech Republic with expertise in cancer and developmental biology, metabolism, gene expression and structural biology & protein engineering. IBT is located in the BIOCEV center of excellence ( operated by the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University. BIOCEV brings together >500 international scientists and students in >50 research groups. The IBT and BIOCEV partners run excellent core facilities (gene core, chemical synthesis, structural and biophysical analysis, a state-of-the-art animal clinic, flow cytometry & imaging and omics core facilities).

IBT/BIOCEV is in Vestec, located at the outskirts of Prague, ~30 minutes from the city center by public transport.

Fully funded position is available immediately. The lab is funded by European (ERC, EMBO, MSCA) as well as national (GACR) sources.
