Two PhD and MSc student positions open – Laboratory of Gene Expression

publikováno: 8.1.2018

Laboratory of Gene Expression (http://www.ibt.cas.cz/vyzkum/laboratore/laborator-genove-exprese/) is looking for two PhD and MSc candidates with an expected starting date for summer/autumn 2018. Students will participate on projects focused on molecular and developmental biology.

Laboratory: The Laboratory of Gene Expression is a well-funded research laboratory with an excellent publication track record and comprise of researchers with unique scientific expertise. We focus on gene expression studies using a combination of up-to date techniques such as single cell expression profiling and NGS. We also utilize good biological models to help explain aspects of embryonic development, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer progression. The laboratory is located in the new state-of-the-art BIOCEV research center.

Qualification: Applicants should have a background in biochemistry, physiology, molecular or cell biology and bioinformatics. We seek a highly motivated, creative person, with strong interest in solving scientific problems.

  1. MicroRNA in central nervous system injury: potential roles and therapeutic implications. To understand the mechanisms underlying gene alterations following spinal cord injury and ischemic stroke, the successful candidate will examine temporal expression of miRNAs and mRNAs in the nervous tissue in mice and rat models using RNA sequencing and RT-qPCR analysis. The most promising miRNA-mRNA regulatory networks will be validated in vitro and in vivo using combination of tools for RNA, protein and functional analysis to verify true biological relevance of the findings. We are looking for candidate especially interested in large-scale data measurement and analysis.
  2. In the second project we use frog animal model to study early development and biological processes such as wound healing and regeneration. Student is expected to perform a broad set of experiments from functional experiments including microinjections and micromanipulations of embryos, gene expression characterization to large-scale data measurement and analysis.
